Red Altar: Sat. Nov 9 Westchester Marriott, 670 White Plain Rd, Tarrytown

November 9, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm EST

FREE
This storytelling, multi-media piece “Red Altar” has all the relevance of the day: Families separated, deportations, anti-immigrant sentiment, the rise in hate crimes and racist violence, White Nationalism… but NO surprise, these are NOT from recent events but actually from the 1800’s in Early California and metted against the Chinese Americans, their immigrant families and descendants.
Nancy Wang’s Chinese ancestors, 6 teenagers from China, shipwrecked off the coast of California, with the help of the Rumsen-Esalen First Nations people were able to get established in this land “hostile to red, black, brown and yellow” skinned people.  These Chinese immigrants in 1850 starting the first Chinese fishing villages on the West Coast. This story shows the perseverance, survival and ingenuity that the Chinese had to endure the racist policies of this nation.
This  is a RARE opportunity to catch Eth-Noh-Tec, kinetic story theater on stage on their East Coast Tour. FREE performance (not tickets necessary, however arrive early as it is open seating)
