Nancy Wang’s grandfather Chin F. Foin, described as “the richest Chinaman in the country,” went to work every morning in a white starched shirt with a black bowtie, a black tuxedo, and shiny black patent leather shoes. After gulping down a raw egg taken fresh from under the hen in the backyard of his mansion, his chauffeur would drive him to his fancy downtown Chicago restaurant, the Mandarin Inn, where he oversaw the work of fifty employees, and wined and dined his ‘carriage trade’ clientele. The day would pass into the evening until he would finally come home at midnight.
But one late night in 1924, the phone rang instead. It was the hospital calling. He was dead, having plunged down the elevator shaft into the basement of his own restaurant.
Was it just an accident, or was it murder? Come find out!
