Strong Like Bamboo 2
We welcome you to join us for Strong Like Bamboo 3! This two-part event takes place on two separate days in May, 5/22 (Social Gathering) and 5/25 (Performance). These events are free to the public and feature different content, so please feel welcome to come to one or both showings.
Strong Like Bamboo is part of a larger series that originated in 2024 and aims to build community and solidarity at this time of strife in America. The purpose of Strong Like Bamboo is to create a sanctuary where we can share our stories and music and learn from activists what we can do to be safe, stay strong, and be able to count on one another in these trying times.
Please see below for event times and details.
On 5/22/25 6-7:30 Hispanic Room at the SF Main Library
Strong Like Bamboo 3 presents Part 1: Together We Rise - Music and Stories from Asian & Latin Voices in Solidarity
Join us in this free program! We will share music, stories and fun family rituals celebrating the rich cultures we come from. We will also provide information about our rights to safety in these uncertain times as we renew our determination to keep one another safe. Focusing on Asian and Latinx communities, we will provide a dinner of both Asian and Latin dishes. You are welcome to bring a dessert from your culture to share. Like bamboo, when tied together, we too will be stronger when we unite!
On 5/25/25 2-4:30pm in the Koret Auditorium and Hispanic Room at the SF Main Library
Strong Like Bamboo 3 presents Part 2: Stories and Songs of Resilience and Courage in the Face of Racism
Please join us for inspiring stories and songs to nourish your soul in these trying times. Performed by professional tellers from Chicago and the Bay area, by Hapa, LGBT and elders, as an audience member you will also have the chance in small groups to share your experiences and concerns about the racist acts being perpetrated against people of color. Building allyship and community across all ethnicities is critical at this time and we hope Strong Like Bamboo will be a place for you to experience inspiration, camaraderie, comfort, connection and the power of sharing and being heard in our communities.
*Strong Like Bamboo is supported in part by the San Francisco Arts Commission
