An American Tale of a Chinese Fishing Village

 

The year is 1850. A Chinese junk boat, caught in the rages of a Pacific storm is shipwreck into Carmel Bay. Six teenagers are flung overboard and are rescued by Rumsen-Esalen natives.  These voyagers, finding camraderie amongt these First Nations peoples, establish a Chinese fishing village along the Monterey coast. This is the story of these Asian pioneers, their survival and success, only to face yet another storm: the Anti-Chinese exclusion movement, racist mobs and purges.
